Does a 8MP digital camera provide really good resolution as compared top a 10MP?

My 5 MP Panasonic Lumix finally quit working. I need a similar camera but with a built in wide angle. I’m looking at 8MP, 9MP and 10MP. I take pictures of houses that go on the internet in e-mail size. Does it matter that it be 10MP. Would 8MP be good enough? People liked my 5MP pictures. Do I really need 10MP or is it possible that 8 or 9 MP will be good enough for the web? The reason for my question is that I’m on a strict budget and every dollar counts.

If your primary purpose is taking real estate shots for web posting, megapixels are about the least of your concerns. You will need to look for a wide angle lens more than anything else.

I’m not a huge fan of the camera, but the widest angle I know about in a small, easy to operate camera is the Kodak V705. I say that I’m not a fan, because you won’t get extremely high quality images from the wide angle end, which is fixed at an equivalent of 23 mm. We both know that you are not going to try making any photographic quality, poster-sized prints, though, and the camera will do just fine for your needs. In fact, if you don’t do any cropping, you might even be happy with prints as big as 8×10.

It looks like the Canon SD880-IS is the current model. The 28mm (equiv) lens will be helpful for interior shots.
